Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B Minor, BWV 1067
The Four Seasons
Javier Chaparro, violin
Penny Zent, flute
Don’t miss Music Director Marcelo Bussiki and the BVSO as we highlight two of the orchestra’s most talented and celebrated musicians in a concert of Baroque masterpieces. Javier Chaparro, our favorite concertmaster since 1992, takes center stage in Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, an undisputed classical “Top 40”. This beloved depiction in musical imagery creates visions of spring birds, summer storms, autumn country dances, and winter ice skating scenes for the audience’s imagination. Violinist Javier Chaparro is one of the most versatile musicians in Texas today as an accomplished singer-songwriter, bandleader, and composer of film soundtracks. Bach’s Suite No. 2 is a showpiece for our principal flutist, Penny Zent. The final movement of Suite No. 2 is considered to be one of the most challenging and exciting works written for flute. Penny has played continuously with the BVSO longer than any other musician, starting her tenure in the symphony’s second season in 1982. She currently serves as Vice President of the National Flute Association and has toured and performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
